Week 8 News and Updates in NASCAR Sprint Cup
- Stewart-Haas Racing has confirmed that Ty Dillon will drive Tony Stewart’s No.14 Chevrolet this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway Sprint Cup race. Brian Vickers, the interim driver for Tony Stewart last weekend at Daytona, is scheduled to race the No.14 car at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
- Tony Stewart’s recovery from a broken back (31 January) will take its time. Tony told FOX recently “Honestly, every day just keeps getting better and better,” Stewart said. “I’m getting stronger and getting more mobile”.
- Matt Kenseth reacted on teammate Denny Hamlin (Joe Gibbs Racing) last lap move in the Daytona 500 race – but not in a negative way. After the race, Kenseth was interviewed by NASCAR and said “I thought my only shot for the win was to get up there and get his nose centered up and hopefully get in front of him”. Kenseth continued his view of the last lap driving “I made the block and then let him get outside of me, but he turned back under me and it got me real loose and get my left-rear and just went by. “Masterful job of doing that. It doesn’t get much more disappointing for us.” Kenseth had no hard feelings against Denny Hamlin and ended the interview with “You’re trying to win the Daytona 500“.
- Stewart-Haas Racing will switch to Ford 2017 (NASCAR.com). This will affect Tony Stewart, Kevin Harvick, Danica Patrick and Kurt Busch, who all drives a Chevrolet now. Tony Stewart made a statement “I am proud of our association with Chevrolet as they helped build our organization into the team it is today,” said Stewart in a team statement. “This new partnership with Ford allows us to strengthen our position in the sport and ensure the long-term stability and success for everyone who is a part of Stewart-Haas Racing”.
